Accessing Journal Content

How can I access the full text journal content from the app?

If you are currently a subscriber to the journal, you can log in using the same username/email and password combination you use to access the journal content on the journal's web site.

I’m a subscriber, what do I need in order to access the full features?

You can log in using the same username/email and password combination you use to access the journal content on the journal's web site.

If you don’t have a username/email and password, you can get one by first going to the Journal web site to register for an account and claiming access to your subscription . This one-time process only takes a few minutes. After you have an account, you can login in this app to gain access to the journal content.

Can I access the app using my proxy server or TPS login?

These types of access are not currently supported. If you currently access the journal web site via TPS, you can register for an account on the journal web site and then use this new account to gain full text access in this app.

Notifications

Can I receive notifications on my device when new issues are available?

Yes, if you can turn on notifications within the app by tapping the "Settings" menu and then set " Notifications".

Past Issues

What past issues are available?

Past issues are available back through the start of 2011 in the app.

Downloading Issues

How can I download journal issues?

Full text of articles are downloaded for each full issue when you ask to do so by tapping the Download Issue button. Until then, only the tables of contents and/or abstracts are available. You can continue to work while issues download in the background, reading articles that have been downloaded to that point.

How can I find out how much of an issue remains to be downloaded?

You can access the download information from the app side menu. From the side menu, tap "Downloads" to check the progress of the downloaded articles.

Deleting Content & App Memory Usage

Can I delete content that I download to the app?

You can delete issues, articles, and/or multimedia from this app to reduce the amount of space used by the app's journal content on your device. Tap the "Settings" menu and select the journal to delete downloaded content. You can also delete issues from your device from the "All Issues" screen. Articles in your reading list and those with notes will not be deleted.

Articles in Press/Online First

These are articles that have been approved for publication but are not yet published in an issue.

How can I download Articles in Press/Online First articles?

You can download them individually by tapping the download button to right of the article title or from the bottom of the article abstract. You can also download batches of recent articles by tapping the "List" icon in the top right corner of the Action Bar.

Open Access

Are Open Access articles available in the app?

Yes

How do I know if a Journal or Issue has Open Access articles?

Open Access Journals or Issues containing Open Access articles are either labeled "Open Access", "Open Archive" or "Supports Open Access".

Offline Reading

How can I read article offline?

  1. You can download issues and Articles in Press/Online First articles to read. Once downloaded, these will be available to read offline.
  2. Articles saved to your reading list are always available offline. They will not be deleted when issues are deleted.
  3. To read PDFs offline, each must be downloaded. Once downloaded, it will be available to read offline.

How can I add articles to my reading list to read offline?

Tap the star icon to add an article to your reading list.

Are articles in my reading list also saved to the journal web site or to my other devices?

No, this is not currently available. Articles in your reading list are only available in the app on this device.

Notes

How can I use notes within the app?

Notes are your own personal comments that you attach to articles. To add notes, drag to select text in the full text of an article. You will be prompted to enter your note. The presence of a note is indicated by a yellow highlight on the text you selected to add the note.

Can I get my notes out of the app?

Yes, you can email your notes from the app. Go to the "Notes" section within the app or within an article and tap on the mail icon to email your notes.

Will my notes be deleted when issues are deleted?

No, your notes and the articles they are associated with will remain in the app. You can find your notes under the "Notes" section of the app.

Are my notes also saved to the journal web site or to my other devices?

No, this is not currently available. Notes are only available in the app on this device.
